1.68 Trillion rupees has been allocated for the Development of the country. Out of it only 8 Billion has been allocated for the North. This is about 0.5 % of the total amount. Action should be taken to increase this, requested the Leader of the Opposition, NPC, S.Thavarasa, from the PM, Ranil Wickremasinghe.
During a development meeting held at the Jaffna District Secretariat, The Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe commented that the contribution of the North is very less in the National Development. Replying the PM, Thavarasa said that a total of 1.68 Trillion rupees has been allocated for the overall Development (Capital Expenditure). Only 8 billion has been allocated for Jaffna. This allocation should be increased, he said.
There are 25 Districts in the country. If the total fund is divided equally, at least 4 % should be allocated to each District. At least 1 % should be allocated to Jaffna. Action should be taken to increase the allocation for Jaffna, he said.
