Police ban placing the photos of students killed at ‘Chenchcholai’ in the Memorial Tower

In a context where a memorial Tower is being constructed at Vallipunam, Police has banned placing the photos of the students killed in the Air attack of Sri Lankan Air Force in side Chenchcholai Complex. Further the Police had summoned few people engaged in the construction to Puthukudiyiruppu police station.

53 students were killed in the air attack of the Sri Lankan Air force in 2006 at the Chenchcholai Complex .

In a context of the 13th memorial day of the students killed to be observed on the 14th of this month, a Memorial Arch was constructed in Memory of the students on the road to Chenchcholai.  All necessary permission had been obtained from relevant Departments. However the Police has banned placing the photos of the killed students on the memorial.

This incident also has occurred following the Sri Lankan Government placing obstacles to constructing memorials for people killed in the war and commemorating their memorial days.
