12 refugees returning to Home Land after 12 years arrested and released on bail: Boatmen remanded

12 people who were displaced to India and returning by boat to Home Land were arrested yesterday along with two boatmen. They have returned after 12 years of refugee life. They  were arrested in the early hours of yesterday in the seas off Kankesanthurai. They were handed over to the Kankesanthurai Police. All 12 of them were from Trincomalee. 4 of them were small children. They have paid about 450,000/= for their journey.

They were arrested from a boat belonging to 2persons from Inpersiddy in Vadamaraddchchi. The 2 boat drivers also were arrested and subjected to inquiries. Displaced from Trincomalee in 2006, they have gone through Mannar to India and were housed in Puthukoddai camp. A 9 months old baby whose mother had come by plane of last 24th, had been brought by them and handed over to the mother.

All 12 of them were released on bail by Mallakam Magistrate who had remanded the boat operators.
