All 120 Tamil Police Officers serving in the Northern Province have been given transfer from the SDIG divisions they are now to various other divisions within the Province. The Northern Province SDIG Office announced that these transfer are to become effective immediately.
Senior DIG, Senanayake, who is going on transfer from Northern Province to Southern Province had given these transfers. Attorney at Law Remidius had publicly accused recently that Police officers had links with sand smugglers. This Attorney at Law who belongs to the party of Minister Douglas Thevanantha , placed this accusation in a meeting convened by the same Minister and held at Jaffna District Secretariat last week.
It is learnt that the transfers to Police officers have been given in this context. Those who had come after serving the mandatory 5 years also had been affected by this transfer and they have appealed to the Relevant authorities. Further SSPs and OICs have protested against the transfer of Tamil officers.
