3 Army men convicted in Visuvamadu Gang Rape case released by Colombo Appeal Court
3 Army men sentenced to jail in the Visuvamadu gang rape case were released. The appeal against the sentence was taken for hearing in the Colombo Appeal Court yesterday.
After the hearing the court passed judgment acquitting the accused from charges.
Three army men accused of gang raping a women at Visuvamadu in 2010 were sentenced to 30 years in prison, in 2015. The three convicted men filed an appeal in the Colombo appeal court against this conviction. After 5 years of hearing the panel of judges including Kumuthiny Wickremasinghe and Priyantha Fernando order the accused be released. Further, they acquitted the accused of all charges.
Shantha Subasinghe,Thanushka Puspakumara and Priyantha Kumara were the accused who were released.
It is notable that, the AAL who appeared for Pushpakumara had submitted that the accusations on the Sri Lanka Army had been made maliciously by a terrorist Group.
