Consumers authority in raid of shops. 2000 Kgs of hoarded rice captured.Several warned

Following complaints from people that essential goods had been hoarded and sold at high prices, Consumers Authority, Health services officials and the police joined in raids on trade centres, yesterday.

During these raids 2,000 Kgs. of hoarded rice, expired items and chemical sprayed items were captured and traders who had sold things at high prices were identified and action had been taken against them.

These raids were made in the north, especially in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya Districts. On complaints from the public, a shop in Nedunkerny was raided and 2,000 kgs. of rice was captured yesterday, Thursday. Following the raid, people gathered to congratulate the raiding officers.

During a raid in the Kilinochchi Market some traders who had sold at high prices were identified and warned by the officers.
