When the farmers went to clear the agricultural lands in Mulai- Kokkuththoduwai and Erinthakadu areas, the Forest Department had prevented them.
The farmers of that area had requested the relevant officers to pay attention on this matter and make suitable arrangements to clear these lands and undertake ‘manavari’ cultivations.
Elaborating further they said that they have got displaced in 1984 and had resettled in their lands after 30 years and that all their agricultural lands had been overgrown with jungles. Now the Forest Department had imposed ban on clearing the lands and undertaking agricultural activities.
However, permission had been granted by the District Secretariat and other relevant officials to undertake agricultural activities in Erintha kadu (Sagalaththuvelli).
In accordance to that manavari cultivation had been undertaken from 2012 in that area. Accordingly, the farmers had gone with heavy machinery to clear the lands for cultivation and the Forest Depart had banned clearing and cultivating those lands, they said.
