The Media centre for Kankesanthurai North announced yesterday that 155 kilos ganja was captured in the territorial waters of Sri Lanka, near the seas off Kankesanthurai. The Ganja was captured by the Navy on routine patrol yesterday morning. They were found intricately packed in 28 blue polythene water-proofed packages.
It is suspected that, in a context where the ganja was to be smuggled from India to Sri Lanka by a sea route, the smugglers may have abandoned the packages after sighting the Navy on patrol.
The street value of the ganja captured was determined to be around Rs.2,003,250,000/=.
No suspects were arrested relevant to this recovery and the captured Ganja is to be handed over to the Kankesanthurai Police.
