1,825 families affected by the prolonging drought, in Vavuniya , says Disaster Management Unit

The Vavuniya District Disaster Management Unit had said that, 6,583 persons belonging to 1,825 families in Vavuniya  have been affected badly  by the drought prevailing in the District.

Due to the continuing drought,  720 person of 238 families of Vavuniya District Secretariat area,

720 persons of 238 families of Vavuniya Divisional Secretariat area,

258 persons of 78 families of Vavuniya  South Divisional Secretariat area,

448 persons of 115 families of Vavuniya North Divisional Secretariat area,

5160 persons of 1,394  families of Venkalacheddykulam  Divisional Secretariat area had been affected, and action had been taken to provide drinking water to them,the Disaster Management Unit said.

Water levels had gone down in tanks and wells in Vavuniya area due to absence of rain in the area. A shortage of drinking water is found here due to lack of rainfall. There are chances that further areas will experience  drinking water shortages , the unit further said.
