As per the Statistics published by the Puthukkudiyiruppu Divisional Secretariat, 1,863 women are living with all sort of crises after losing their husbands. 39,823 people belonging to m12,820 families have been resettled in 19 GS Divisions of Puthukudiyiruppu DS Division under Mulaitheevu.
1,863 women have lost their husbands due to war and other reasons. 61 of the husbands had gone missing after the final war. No livelihoods have been provided to them. Overall there are 6,249 woman leadership families in 6 DS Divisions of the Mulaitheevu District as per the statistics of the Women Development Centre operating under the Central Government. Such families have appealed to the NGOs, other public Organizations and Migrated brethren to help them with livelihood assistance.
The Puthukudiyiruppu Divisional Secretary, Maruthalingam Pratheeban said that various people provide help in a non-coordinated way and several affected people are left out. He said anyone who wish to provide some help should contact the DS office for details of needy persons and then provide the help with the assistance of the officers of the DS office.
