Jaffna District only is affected due to dry climate, said the Disaster Management Centre. It also said that due to this drought around 19,000 people are affected mainly in Kayts, Delft and Karainagar.
The drought period, which usually prevail during the months of April and May had been postponed to July –August due to considerable amount rain fall compared to last year.
Currently, the Disaster Management Centre is providing drinking water to the affected people through respective Pradeshiya sabas.
If the drought extends more even Velenai division also will be affected, the centre said.
