2000  years old cemetery discovered in Trincomalee

An ancient cemetery was discovered in Valluvar Koddam area in on the Kanniya – Road, in Kutchchavely Divisional Secretary’s Division of Trincomalee District, said the Trincomalee Archeological Officer, Sumanadasa.

This cemetery may be 2000 – 2500 years old he said. In a context where 5  tombs have been found it is expected that more could be found in the nearby jungle area. Out of them 2 were in an excavated  state. It is believed the they have been excavated for treasurers. The excavated tomb was found to be around 3 meters deep and the stones from one  had been used to build the walls of a house nearby.
