Northern Chief Minister C.V.Wigneswaran has observed that the current presidential poll is between Democracy and anarchy. He made this observation to the media after casting his vote at the polling booth at Colombo Thurstan College.
Responding to a question posed by the media whether TNA has extended its support to Maithripala Sirisena without any assurances, he stated that in Sri Lankan politics any statements made openly can have counter- productive effects. So in such a context, TNA supports Maithripala Sirisena without any verbal announcement but certainly on the basis of an understanding.
He added that it is a multi- party alliance that has put forward Maithripala as a common candidate. Several parties representing the minorities in the country are under the umbrella of this alliance. He operates in a manner accommodating the views of the minority parties. Therefore, we repose faith in him.
He stressed that today, TNA has to approach the issue on a short term basis and on a long term basis.
He said: We are confident that immediate issues can be sorted out through him, while issues such as finding a political solution will be on a long term basis.”
