20th Amendment is an attempt to grab the meager powers granted to PCs: Suresh Premachandran

20th Amendment is an attempt to grab the meager powers granted to PCs: Suresh Premachandran

20th Amendment is  for dissolving the PCs, whenever they wish and to bring them into their control, said the leader of the EPRLF and former MP, Suresh Premachandran.

He stated so in the media conference held at the Jaffna Press Club yesterday. While the Tamil people are demanding more devolution, action is being continued to be taken by the Government to grab the meager powers given to the PCs.  It has brought the 20th amendment for this purpose. All Tamil Parties in the parliament should oppose this draft act without any party discrimination.

Uva Province has already rejected it. The Northern Province also is to reject this amendment. Provincial Council system is more important to Tamils than either Sinhalese or Muslims. All must keep in mind that the PC system came because of the struggle of Tamil people. It creates much suspicion that Sampanthan is not opening his mouth about the 20th amendment, he said.
