From the year 2012, only 46.1 % of State and private lands have been released to date. Another 2,256.9 acre are under the control of the Army as per the statistics of the Mulaitheevu Secretariat.

After end of the war in 2009, army occupied these lands and established camps. As from 2012 people were resettled. Although, the Army left the lands in stages and cooperated to resettle people, most of the lands are still under the control of the Army.
After present Government came to power in 2015, it promised the UN and the International Countries that the lands of the Tamil people will be released speedily. However the release is being carried out in a slow pace.
