268 mm rain fall has been received in the Jaffna peninsula in just 3 days. On Sunday night only, a rainfall of 138 mm rain mm has been recorded, said the Officer in Charge of Met. Office, T.Pratheeban.
The rainfall received this year was comparatively less than last year. In this context continuous rains are experienced from last Saturday. Largest rain fall was recorded at 138.3mm within the period of 8.30 p.m. on last Sunday to 8.30 a.m. on Monday. 26.3 mm rain had been recorded from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. yesterday
Meanwhile the water level in Iranaimadu Tank, which is the biggest in Kilinochchi District has risen to 10′. It is notable that the tank was emptied and renovations undertaken. Kanakambihai kulam also has reached spilling level, with the water levels in other tanks of the District rising rapidly. Low lying areas of the District have been submerged in flood waters.
