28 Tamil youths abducted, ransom extracted, and then Murdered: CID grilling Navy personnel
The CID has commenced investigation regarding a complaint that around 28 Tamil youths were abducted, ransom extracted from the relatives and then murdered mercilessly, by some Sri Lanka Navy personnel.
The above investigation is being carried out, regarding 28 youths abducted during the period between 2008 to 2011. All these youths were abducted, ransom extracted from the relatives and then murdered, it is feared.
The police had commenced their investigation on the basis of a suspicion that navy personnel are connected to their disappearances. 12 navy men including 3 officers were brought in to suspects’- ring, the police sources said.
When the Police interrogated a Navy Officer on the basis of this complaint they were able to recover passports and Identity cards of 5 youths from his room.
Between the years 2008 and 2011, 28 youths were abducted in the infamous “White vans” from general areas of Kottahena, Bluemendol street, Mount Lavinia,Wellawatta, Bambalapitiya in Colombo. A father and son duo abducted from Kotahena also are in this number.
It is feared that these youths were detained in the Navy camps located at , Trincomalee and Chaitiya Road (Colombo Fort) and then murdered.
An officer in the suspects ring had gone abroad for a training and action is being taken to bring him back to the country for investigations, it is reported.
