29 acre lands belonging to 70 families and hitherto under the control of the Sri Lankan Army were released by the Army Yesterday. The event for this was held in front of Uththariya Matha Church in Vayavilan, yesterday.
This area was occupied by the Army in 1990. The residents of the area were displaced and were suffering in Transit camps without basic facilities.
Slowly and in stages the occupied lands are released by the Army after the regime change in 2015. Yesterday’s release was stage 16. 29 acre in J/244 – Vayavilan of Vali-North Divisional Secretary’s Division were released yesterday.
Commander of the Security Forces-Jaffna, Major General Tharsana Hettiarachchi handed over the Certificate of release, to the District Secretary, Jaffna, N.Vethanayagan. Vadamoolai RCTM School, church adjoining it and 29 acre of 70 families were included in the released area.
