3,000 Rain water storing tanks to be installed in the peninsula with Indian assistance

A memorandum of understanding was to be signed with India to install 3,000 tanks for storing rain water in the Jaffna Peninsula. The Cabinet has given its approval for this project. The secretariat for National Unity and Reconciliation had earlier submitted a proposal for providing a stable water resource to the peninsula, to the Indian Government. On the basis of this proposal, India has pledged 300 Million Rupees to install 3,000 rain water storage tanks.

A memorandum of understanding is to be signed between the governments of India and Sri Lanka. The President Maithripala Sirisena had submitted a white paper calling for the approval of the Cabinet for this project. The Cabinet had approved the project.
