33 acre lands released yesterday in Vali North

33 acre lands hitherto under the control of the Army has been handed over for people’s use. Lands in Veemankamam under J/236 Grama Niladhari division were released yesterday. The SFHQ – Jaffna handed over the relevant documents to Tellipalai Divisional Secretary.

These lands have been handed over after 27 years of occupation by the Army and owners were busily engaged in identifying their lands. Land owners should be present to take over the lands, said the Divisional Secretary S.Sivasri. Most of the houses in the released area are damaged. Around 16 houses in conditions for the people to occupy immediately.

It was speculated that these should have been in the use of the Army. A Vihare used by the Army is found within the released area. The village court Road, around 700 m. long, hitherto not released had been released yesterday

It was reported that a large Vihare and two other Buddha statues which had been constructed within released area had not been removed by the Army, although the Army had removed their camps and assets.
