The 34th Annual commemoration of 32 people mercilessly massacred by the Sri Lankan Army in Othiyamalai was held yesterday and a Memorial Tower erected by the people was also declared open yesterday.
Othiyamalai is a border hamlet coming under the Odduchuddan Divisional Secretary’s area. at the early hours of the 1st December 1984, this hamlet was rounded up by the Sri Lankan Army. people were herded into RDA Building and later 32 of them were found mercilessly massacred inside the building.
The 32nd commemoration of the massacred people was held yesterday. A memorial tower for the people killed in this disaster constructed with allocation form MP Shanthy Sriskantharajah was declared open on the same day. Further an Alms-giving hall constructed in memory of the killed people, in the Othiyalai Pillaiyar Temple premises was also handed over to the Temple.
Following the memorial orations were delivered , a special pooja was offered in the Temple for the peace of the souls of the demised persons.
