4 Hours of investigation on Santharoopan deported from Australia, amidst opposition

Information has been received that a Sri Lankan refugee called Santharupan Thangalingam, who had sought asylum in Australia  had been deported from Australia and had arrived at Sri Lanka. As per the Official news, he had reached Sri Lanka at 10.00p.m yesterday

It is said that, when arrived at Katunayake, officials had taken him away for inquiries. Arrangements were made for the family of Santharoopan to meet him through the AAL of The Tamil Refugees Council, K.S.Rathnavel.

After 4 hours of inquiries Santharoopan was allowed to go with his family.

Santharoopan had gone to Australia in 2012 by Boat, arrested by Australian immigration, indicated as an LTTE member and among heavy opposition, Australia has deported him. He had stated to the UN Refugee Council that he will be in danger if he is deported to Sri Lanka and that Organization had also requested the Australian Government to delay his deporting.

In a context where this request was rejected, Santharoopan had been deported.
