4 southerners who tried to pluck aloe plants at Ponnalai and transport them to South were stopped, warned and sent away by social enthusiasts of the area.
In a context where, much demand has been found for this medicinal plant, plucking them and smuggling them out of peninsula by southerners and local persons had increased in recent times.
There were incidents where the police arresting persons who had tried to smuggle out aloe plants out of Delft Island.
In this context, 4 southerners who had come in a ‘buddy’ vehicle had engaged in Aloe plant on the road to Ponnalai cemetery. S.Ratheeswaran, a social activist had noticed this and had informed the Pradeshiya Saba Member.
Together they had gone to the spot and had stopped the person from plucking the plants. The persons from the South had said that they are are taking them to a Farm in Vavuniya and had pleaded to be allowed to pluck the plants.
Pointing out that allowing to pluck the plants in large numbers will push them into extinction, they had warned the offenders and turned them away with only the already plucked plants.
