Provincial Department for Indigenous medicine said yesterday that the although, adverse weather prevailed in the North, 51 rare herbs have been delivered to the Medicine Production Unit.
Elaborating further it said that, ” There are 7 herbal gardens belonging to the Department in the North. Large number of herbs is produced in these gardens. Among them 51 rare herbs are cultivated specially and supplied for medicine production.
10 kinds of medicine are produced from them at a cost of 15 million Rupees. 14, 000 kgs. of medicine are being produced annually from them. Most of the herbs are produced in the Herbal Gardens in the Jaffna District. Even in the drastic weather that prevailed in the current year, the production of these herbs was done successfully.
With a view to increasing demand, herbal gardens are in the process of being established in 5 ac re at Nedunkerny. There, along with the production of herbs, training related it also is to be given, it was said.
