600 acre of lands occupied by the Army in the Town areas of Jaffna and Kilinochchi district are to be released by next year.
Several factions have demanded continuously that lands of people on which the Army is staying for long periods be released. The people had undertaken several continuous protest struggles demanding that their lands be released.
In this context some lands are being released in stages. However, the Army is in occupation of certain valuable residential lands in the town areas of Jaffna and Kilinochchi Districts. Pressures were exerted from several corners for the Army to leave the lands of the people.
Meanwhile the Army had promised that they are to leave the camps located on lands in the town areas of Jaffna and Kilinochchi Districts. Around 600 acre lands are to released fully by next year.
It is anticipated that the announcement of this release will be made in a meeting to be presided by the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremasinghe on the 28th of this month.
