Human remains found in front of Prison complex in Jaffna not reported to police

While excavations were done in front of Prison Complex, Jaffna, for constructing quarters for police, it is alleged that human skeletons had surfaced and they were not reported to police and no inquiries were made about them.

The construction work on quarters for Police personnel and during the excavations 4 human skeletons had been found at the site. But this ‘find’ had not been reported to the police nor to the court. On the other hand they had been removed by vehicles. Although the construction workers there have informed the  official, no legal action have been taken.

Similarly when a pit was dug behind prison 6 skeletons were found. They also were removed by vehicles.

However the construction work is continuing at these side. The Prison Superintendent, C. Perera said that he had not been informed about finding the and I also had not heard anything about it.

It is notable that the said area was under the full control of the Army from 1996 to 2002.
