South African High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Robina P. Marks has suggested that a statue of former South African State Leader Nelson Mandela be erected in Jaffna.
A meeting between the Envoy, Robina P. Marks and the Northern Governor Reginold Cooray was held day before yesterday at the Governors Secretariat. She placed forward this suggestion in this meeting.
A press release issued by the Governor’s Secretariat, regarding this meeting, further stated that, the Development and religious reconciliation activities undertaken between the two countries were discussed in this meeting. Robina P. Marks had placed forward a suggestion of erecting a statue of Late Leader, Nelson Mandela in Jaffna. Mandela is the symbol of peace to many people of the world. Hence all people of the country will accept this.
She had extended that an all-race group from Sri Lanka to visit South Africa, find out about the living styles of our people, bring back message of peace in it to the people of Sri Lanka, the release said.
