75,199 persons affected by the drought in Mannar. Remedying activities intensified: says Disaster Management centre

Reporting that Mannar District had been affected continuously by the prolonging drought that is prevailing in the country, the Disaster Management Centre also said that 75,199 persons belonging to 21, 754 families had been affected in Mannar by the drought. The temperature had gone up in several places. These areas are heavily affected by the drought. Mannar District is encountering severe drought now.

People living in close proximity to Mannar Town is the most affected, said the Disaster Management Centre. 4,448 families in Mannar Divisional Office area, 1,480 families in Nanattan, 3,584 families in Musaly, 5,211 families in Manthai and 431 families in Madhu are affected by the drought.The Disaster Management unit is providing drinking water to these families on the direction of District Secretariat.

We are ready for the situation where the drought could increase and all other exigencies, said the Mannar Unit of the Disaster Management Centre.

The Disaster Management further said no complaints had been recorded from Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mulaitheevu Districts and they are ready for any exigencies that would occur in these Districts. Assistances are being distributed now to the people affected last year. Affected people are undergoing selection now, they said.
