12,500 additional acre could be cultivated in the Yala Season, says the Kilinochci Deputy Director of Irrigation

The Deputy Director of Kilinochchi District, Navaratnam Suthakaran said that an addition 12,500 acre could be cultivated in Kilinochchi in the forthcoming Yala season.

He said so when contacted over the current agricultural situations in Kilinochchi.

Elaborating further he said, that after the massive renovation, and specially during  years  of 2017, 2008, water  inflow was not complete to fill the capacity. But after heavy rains the likelihood of the Tank being filled to capacity had increased.

This is a happy news not only to farmers but also for us in the Department. If the Iranaimadu Tank is filled to capacity, 12,500 acre more than the usual acreage cultivated, could be cultivated.

He further said that due to the continuing rains there is a possibility that all tanks in being filled up to spilling levels.
