86 transgressing Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan navy

The Sri Lankan Navy on Thursday night arrested 86 Indian fishermen off Mullativu District in the North.  Ten of their 10 fishing boats also were seized by the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Indian fishermen will be handed over to the police at the port city of Trincomalee.

Last night in Kaddaikadu seas, transgressing Indian fishermen ferociously attacked local fishermen. During this attack, boats were damaged, Petrol bombs were also thrown at local fishermen.  The Local fishermen had accused that, the negligence of the Navy to stop Indian Fishermen was causing the problems. Further they also said that the Sri Lanka Navy was just watching the melee without taking any action to it.

Meanwhile, the talks between Sri Lanka and India on the fishermen issue scheduled for March 5 have been postponed.
