9 die from unidentified fever in Mullaitheevu: A team from Colombo conduct field studies
9 persons have died within the last 20 days after being afflicted by unidentified type of fever. A medical team from Colombo is engaged in field studies.
The victims were from Mulaitheevu town and they have died after being admitted to Hospital following continuous fever. The Provincial Health Ministry was alerted on this situation, which in turn has informed the Colombo Infectious diseases prevention unit.
In response to this information a field study and prevention activities have been undertaken by a team from Colombo.
Meanwhile, two persons afflicted with the same type of fever was admitted to Mulaitheevu Hospital and then transferred to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for additional Treatment.
Contacted on this, Provincial Director of Health, A.Ketheeswaran said that this matter had been brought to their notice. While our doctors undertook studies Colombo also was informed and a team from Colombo had gone to Mulaitheevu and undertaking speedy activities to identify the virus.
