The Ministry of Defence has said that, further 902 acre land currently used by the Army will be released to the owners soon.
312 acre state lands and 112 acre private lands in the North and 318 acre state lands and 160 acre Private Lands in Eastern Province are to be released, the Ministry of Defence has said in a report filed in the Parliament.
As per this, it has been announced that 227 acre land under the use of Army in Jaffna are to be released. The Good Governance Government which came to power on 2015 January 8th promised to release the lands of the public under security Forces in North and East. As per this lands of people under the control of the Army are released in stages, the Ministry has said.
Meanwhile the Army, Sumith Athapattu said that after the funds needed to transfer the Army structures in these lands, the lands will be released.
