Although the SL Government walks out, the Resolution will not lose its status, says Sampanthan in Jaffna

The Resolution of the UNHRC will not lose its status even if the Sri Lankan Government walks out on it, said the leader of the TNA, Era Sampanthan

The Sri Lankan Government provided the co-sponsorship for the UNHRC resolution of 2015 and walking out on it is their own wish but, the Resolution will stay as it is, he further said.

Elaborating further he said that, although the war came to an end in 2009, it had been said that during the Pre and post 2009 periods, International Human  Rights laws and Humanitarian Laws  had been violated.

Mahindha Rajapakse’s  assurance to take action against Human Rights violation is quoted in the joint – press Report following the visit of Ban Ki Moon, and thereafter that action was delayed.

Ban Ki Moon constituted an Expert Committee to give him a report following this. Sri Lankan Government also a formed a Group for this purpose. The Committee appointed by the Secretary General submitted a report.

It is notable that following some action we took, the American Minister of States was contacted and was requested that proper inquiries should be conducted, America submitted the 2012 Resolution, he said.
