Elections which will affect lives of people, not needed now, says Wigneswaran
Elections should not be held before the Corona threat that is threatening the lives and living of the people is eradicated completely. Parliament seats or our politics is not important to us now. Only the lives of people are important to us, said yesterday, the Secretary General of Tamil Makkal Koottanii, Justice C.V. Wigneswaran.
If the Medical officers who are leading the struggle against Corona will recommend without any political pressure that the threat had been eradicated to an adequate level, let them hold the elections on May 23rd .
But the situation does not seem to be that. Presidents party being in minority in Parliament and the in-house problems of the majority opposition is forcing the holding of elections.
If elections are held in haste we will encounter several problems. Number of people who will vote will be very low. Mobilized military will be advantageously used by the Government.
In this context my opinion is that the elections should be held after the declaration sans political pressure of Medical officers that Corona had been sufficiently eradicated, he said.
