Educational growth in North could be achieved only if the parents are concerned, says Prof. Balasuntharampillai
A former Vice Chancellor and Professor Emeritus, Pon. Balasuntharampillai said yesterday that, the examination results could be improved only if the Northern Department of Education makes the parents concerned about their children’s education.
As per the GCE O/L results released yesterday, Northern Province is in the last place. Instituting changes in this situation is only possible if the parents pay more attention on the education of their children. All the resources including teacher resources are found in good proportion in the North.
When compared to other provinces, the rate is one teacher for every 13 students. Further Governmental and non-governmental institutions have provided much resources.
In this context, the setback in the results is caused by non-concern of the parents. Island sector is found to be at the last position, 99th . Kilinochchi is at the 94th position. If this situation is to change, the Nother Educational Department should make the parents more concerned on the education of their children, he has said.
