5,255 Metric Ton paddy in stock in Vavuniya, says Director of Agriculture, Vavuniya
The Director of Agriculture, Vavuniya, Mrs. Eeswararajan said that, 2,108 MT of paddy had been purchased and stored by State establishment, 3,147 MT had been purchased by Private Mills and kept in storage and that activities had been undertaken to move towards the Target of the President’s Task Force.
Elaborating further she said that although the Yala cultivation could be undertaken in 4,000 Hectares in Vavuniya, the water levels of the Tanks and the forecasts of the Met. Department had restricted this extent to 1,900 Hectares. The cultivation had been already commenced in 1795 Hectares.
District wise targets had been given to be achived in production of subsidiary food crops and the Vavuniya District had achieved so far 21.48%, she said.
