Differently abled person arrested and tortured, complaint made against police with Human Rights Commission

A complaint had been made with the Jaffna Regional Office of the Human Rights Commission that a differently abled person who had lost both his legs was arrested on a false accusation and was tortured at the Police Station.

On the last 24th, at around 11p.m., a confrontation occurred among two groups at Keerimala. A police team led by SI, M.Thayantghan of the KKS police came to the spot for investigation. When the police team identified the person who engaged in the confrontation and tried to arrest them, a sword slashing attack had been made on the SI.

Additional Police personnel came to the spot and had arrested the differently able person on suspicion of being connected to the sword slashing on the SI.

The arrested person was produced before the Mallakam Magistrate and was allowed to go on bail.

In this context the differently able person had made a complaint the HRC that on the night of his arrest he was detained at the police station and mercilessly beaten with Kiluvan sticks and arrested him who had no connection with the attack on false charges.
