A “First” at Jaffna Teaching Hospital , severed hand re-joined, says Director Sathiyamoorthy

For the first time in the History of Northern Province, a man who was admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on 23rd last month with a severed hand was treated with plastic surgery successfully and his situation had returned to normal, said the Director of JTH, Dr.T.Sathiyamoorthy.

Dr. T.Sathiyamoorthy said so while expressing his opinion to the media in a media conference held at Hospital, regarding how the plastic surgery was done at the Teaching Hospital.

Elaborating further he said that an awareness should be created regarding the sword slashing incidents. If excessive sword slashing will occur, such treatment could not be provided to all people affected by sword slashing.

The people should understand that this is a complex treatment system. He also said that a medical team led by Specialist Illancheliyan Pallavan undertook this plastic surgery treatment.
