Medal hunt in Commonwealth games starts with a Gold in weight lifting

The Commonwealth games of the current year are being now held in PUNE, India.

Jaffna Central College’s S.Wishnukanth , representing Sri Lanka in the under 17 weight lifting event hoisted a total of 227 Kilos to clinch the Gold. The existing record for Sri Lanka, in this event, 225 kgs., had been battered by Wishnukanth. He is being trained by an old boy of Central College, A.Vithan.

In the same games, Vembadi Girls’ High School’s  J. Dinoja became the first Tamil girl to win a medal in these games, also in Weight lifting event, in the under 19 age group by lifting 126 kgs and winning a Bronze medal. Athletes from 67 countries are participating in this games.
