I will work to create reconciliation among the races : New Governor of North Reginold Cooray

The new Governor to the north Reginold Cooray was sworn in as the new Governor to the Northern Province by the President yesterday.

Following the swearing in, he held a meeting and explained about him being appointed as the Governor to the North and his future work in the province. He said that he intend to work relentlessly for the building up the Northern Province and to create reconciliation among the races. He also said that his aim is to serve the people in collaboration with all political parties including the TNA.

During my political voyage, I have never advocated racism. I never had adhered to religious extremism. I am a person who always raised my voice against these. I was confronted with several crises because of this. They tried to oppress me. My house was attacked.  I acted without changing my polices after all these. that is why the president had given me this important post. Any money allocated to the North will not be allowed to return as in the past.

I will join the Tamil people in the journey to reconciliation towards which much initiatives are made. As , I had been a Chief Minister, I have knowledge on how to solve the problems of people of a province, he further said.

An English teacher by profession, he entered politics in 1988. He served as a member of the Western Provincial Council and went on to serve as its Chief Minister. Later he became an MP,state Minister and then a Cabinet Minister. He is a senior member of the SLFP.
