Army team to study the threat to Grama Officers at Mullaitheevu
A southern media had quoting the Army HQ sources, said that a special army is being sent to Mullaitheevu to inquire into the incident of the civil duties of the Grama Officers being hindered by the Army and the identity cards of the officers being taken away from them.
It had reported that the Grama Officers who went to collect particulars of encroaching southern fishermen were assaulted and they were threatened by the army and their identity cards were taken away from them. Subsequently the Mullaitheevu District Grama Officers staged a protest in front of District Secretariat, Mullaitheevu. Further, the army action was condemned in the sitting of the NPC and a resolution also was adopted in the NPC condemning the high handed action of the Army.
Following these developments, a special army team is being sent inquire into these matters, the Army HQ sources had said.
