Trincomalee Fishermen stage protest Rally

The Fishermen from Trincomalee staged a protest rally in Trincomalee, demanding to stop fishermen from other districts fishing in Trincomalee sea areas. The Protest was held in Trincomalee Town and in front of District Secretariat, Trincomalee.

Around  800 fishermen from Thiriyai,  Kutchavely, Nilavely and Trincomalee took part in the Rally. The Protesters said that they are confronted with several problems because of the transgression of  fishermen from outside.

The Assistant director of Fisheries, Upali Samaratunge , commenting on the demands of the fishermen said that, Migratory fishermen have permission to fish anywhere. Limited number of fishermen from out side had been granted to fish in Trincomalee. If the resources in Tricomalee will dwindle, permission will be obtained for fishermen of Trincomalee to fish in other areas.
