The Independence Day of Sri Lanka is a Black Day for Tamils, declares the University Students Union

While saying that, in a context where the Tamil people are continuing to be under oppression the Independence of Sri Lanka cannot be accepted as the independence Day of Tamil people the University of Jaffna’s Students Union said that as this is day when Tamils were pushed into political Mass Grave, we are declaring this as a Black Day.

Although 71 years have passed after independence and 10 years after the end of the war:

Missing persons have not been found.

Political prisoners are not released.

Ancient lands of Tamils had been gobbled up in the name of Mahaweli development.

Places of worships are robbed by the Archaeological Department.

In the guise of reorganization of Tigers Tamil youth are arrested.

Rehabilitated Porazhis are being arrested again.

In this context, the question that preceded every other question is that who had received their independence?

Hence we say that the Independence Day of Sri Lanka is a black Day for Tamils, they have said.
