Burning of effigies of TNA leaders, Mavai takes offence
Illankai Thamil Arasu Katchi Leader Parliamentarian Mavai Senathyrajah has stated that the burning of effigies of Tamil National Alliance Leaders namely Sampanthan and Sumanthiran was a diabolic attempt to discredit the party ahead of general election. It was not a principled stand.
Mavai Senathyrajah was speaking to an English media, Ceylon Today. He stated that TNA was very firm that the UN HRC report should be released. But, effigies were burnt with ulterior motives to discredit the party and disrupt the unity of the Tamil people.
He added that these demonstrators who burn effigies of respected Tamil leaders for deferral of report of UNHRC on war crimes had not burnt the effigies of Mahinda Rajapakse and Gotabhaya when the crimes were committed.
