A communication network has been formed between the local fishermen and the Naval and military forces in order to communicate the information regarding transgression of Indian fishermen in the seas of Mullaithivu, said the District Secretary, Rupawathi Kethishwaran.
A meeting was held between representative of the fisheries societies and the officials of the naval and military forces, last week at the premises of district secretariat. According to the decision taken at this meeting, whenever the Indian trawlers entering into the Sri Lankan marine zone, the local fishermen should inform about this transgression to the Sri Lanka Navy and Army, without taking up the laws in their hands. In this regard, the forces have given assurance that they would deal this matter appropriately.
Expressing his views about this meeting , Antthonippillai the President of Fishermen Federation of Mullaithivu said that the meeting went on well and some fruitful decisions were taken to conserve the marine sources as well as to control the Indian trawlers penetration in the Mullaithivu seas.
