One Mohan Ashok, identified by the police as the leader of the notorious “Aavaa group” and wanted by the police in several cases of sword attacks and other crimes, surrendered through his attorney at Law to Mallakam Court yesterday and was remanded for 14 days.
Wanted by police of Manipay, Chunnakam, Jaffna and Kopay, in sword attack and other violence , there are several cases pending against him in the Mallakam Court itself. Arrest warrants had been issued on Mohan Ashok by the Mallakm Court. In this context he surrendered to the court through his AAL, Keerthana Ayuran.
He appeared today in cases of sword attacks on two persons in the year 2014 and the court after examining the arrest warrants against him remanded him for 24 days.
After learning that the person called Mohan Ashok, who had been identified by the police as the leader of the Aavaa group had surrendered to the court, police had cordoned off the court.
Further it is learnt that the Chunnakam police, with the permission of the court had taken over him for inquiries.
It is notable that over 40 persons alleged to be involved in Aavaa group had been arrested during a month long search operations carried out by the police in the peninsula.
