The former Director of the Special intelligence Unit of the Navy and former Navy Spokesman, D.K.P.Dasanayake was arrested yesterday evening at Welisara by CID. The CID said that they are to produce him in the court today.
“He has a close connection with the incidents of abduction of 5 Tamil Students and 11 Tamils in and around Colombo during 2008 and made to disappear. We will arrest him and produce him in court”, the CID had informed the Fort Magistrate, day before yesterday. The arrest has been made in this context.
The case regarding the abduction of 5 Tamil Students and 11 Tamils being abducted and made to disappear in 2008, was taken up day before yesterday before Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne. The vehicle used for these abductions was produced in the court. While the magistrate queried as to why long time is taken to arrest the suspect Lt. Commander of the Navy, the CID said that, they are to add the former Navy Spokesman Dasanayake also as a suspect.
When we called him for inquiries he had got himself admitted to the Navy Hospital. The AAL who appeared for Dasanayake said that the CID is acting with authoritarianism and without the approval of Attorney General. However the CID said that if a person appears to be guilty the AG will approve arresting him.
It is in this context the D.K.P.Dasanayake was arrested yesterday.
