As the traders from the south have not come to the North, Northern farmers are unable to market their produce of Potatoes. The Harvesting season of Potatoes has commenced in the North. For the past few days traders from the South have not come to the North. As a consequence the price of the potatoes has tumbled down.
The Export and Marketing activities have been affected due to the race – riots occurring in Kandy and due unusual situations prevailing in several places.
Due to this reason potatoes were sold for the last two days at Rs.60/= per kilo. Producers are heavily affected, said the Potatoes Producers Marketing Cooperative Society.
