While reporting that, during the current term of the NPC to date, 24,041 Muslims have been resettled in the North. Land deeds have been granted to 3,145 Muslims, the NPC CM, C.V.Wigneswaran has rejected accusations as to discrimination were shown in the resettlement of Muslims as baseless.
In a news release to the media, he had said that, in recent times MPs and MPcs are accusing that discrimination were shown in the resettlement of Muslim people. In my capacity as the Land Minister of NPC, I have outlined this matter during the submission of the NPC budget. However I now wish to express some opinions officially.
During the year 2015, 595 Muslims were resettled in Jaffna, 17,626 in Mannar, 992 in Vavuniya, 739 in Mullaitheevu, and 4,088in Kilinochchi, making a grand total of 24,040. 1,570 Muslims in Jaffna and 1.231 are still to be resettled. During the NPC rule from 2013 – 2016 , Land were given to 1,105 Tamils, 3,145 Muslims and 57 Sinhalese, making a grand total of 4,307
As per this, the NPC has given priority to Muslims, with 73.03% in Resettlement. Further a set of land permits have already been approved by me and dispatched respective Divisional Secretariats. Hence, the accusation that discrimination has been shown to Muslims in Resettlement and Land distribution is baseless, the news release has said.
