The Jaffna High Court yesterday acquitted an accuse from charges of murdering an Army Soldier of Mallakam Army Camp in 2006.
Ratnam Anandarajah of Mallakam was charged with the murder of Kumaradasage Sameera Prasathkumara, an Army soldier, then serving in the Mallakam Army Camp, having an automatic weapon in possession with live rounds. The case came up before Judge Illancheliyan yesterday.
The testifying Army officers said that on 13.1.2006, Prasath kumara was shot dead and the accused was arrested during the search after the incident along with the weapon and ammunition.
The accused testified that his home is near camp, he also heard the shot coming from the Army camp, army came a few minutes later and arrested him from home, but he had no connection with the murder.
The judge in acquitting the accused said that the prosecution had not proved the case beyond reasonable doubts.
